Brief Bio

As a person with lived experience of this complex & multi system condition I am delighted to be working alongside Dr Binita Kane at The Long Covid Clinic. I know first hand how difficult it is for both patients and GPs to access the type of long COVID care that’s needed, and the guidelines and service in place are currently lacking in many areas.

I am a GP of 17 years experience & am the clinical lead for the local memory assessment service. I also worked for many years as a home visiting GP seeing complex housebound patients. Additional areas of special interest for me include women’s health, migraine, neurodiversity and Long Covid & related conditions.

My Story

Following my second Covid infection in 2022 I went on to develop Long Covid. As many of you will have experienced, I went from being a fit and healthy person juggling family life with a demanding career to being bedbound for a number of months. Sadly, even as a doctor I have experienced first-hand what a challenge it can be to get the help and support you need with Long Covid and related conditions.
My own recovery has not been simple or straightforward but with good management of my symptoms with medications, combined with holistic therapies, I was fortunate enough to begin a very slow return to work about 10 months into my illness. I continue to need to actively manage and monitor my recovery but am able to lead the life I want to, with some small adjustments.
Although having this condition has been extremely tough at times, this experience has made me a better doctor and I want to ensure that others with the condition receive compassionate care they deserve by someone who truly understands.

As a doctor I have always had an interest in complex conditions, especially those which medical science has yet to fully explain. As part of my own recovery, I have done extensive research into the management of POTS, MCAS, migraine and other conditions connected to Long Covid, which does not form part of routine GP training and now practice with a specialist interest in the condition.

In the absence of any licensed treatments for Long COVID, there are plenty of treatments that can be tried based on the known scientific literature, which can improve health and function. Recovering from Long Covid is a marathon and not a sprint and it will take time, but progress is possible with the right treatment and support. Working with Dr Kane and the wider team gives us the opportunity to learn from each other and join up care holistically.
